Pam’s HQ Delight
Pam Clarke, MBE Ilkley’s longest serving guide leader has spoken of her delight when she heard the news that the Ben Rhydding Scout and Guide group’s appeal to rebuild their crumbling headquarters has received a massive £50,000 boost.
The group have recently found out they have been successful in their grant application to WREN. WREN is a not for profit business that awards grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK from funds donated by FCC Environment to the Landfill
Peter Cox, managing director of WREN, said: “WREN makes a difference to people’s lives by awarding grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK. We’re delighted to support Ben Rhydding Scout and Guide Group and their valuable work.”
The group are now waiting to hear on a number of other applications and are hoping for more good news in the near future.
Pam said ‘I would like to thank the various groups and individuals and who have leant their support to the project so far. We have received many generous donations and letters of support that have helped us be successful with this application.’
She added ‘It feels like we are really building some momentum and are hopeful we can start the rebuild in Spring 2014 if we continue to have success like this with our grant applications and fundraising. The headquarters is used by 280 children and young people each week and once re-developed would be available to the wider community throughout the day and at weekends.’
The group would be very grateful of any donations local people, parents and supporters feel able to make to the project that will benefit our children and young people and provide improved facilities to the wider community.
